Go! Tigers! Go!

The University of Memphis is celebrating their 100 year anniversary next September. They are putting tigers all around the city to celebrate this milestone. Here is what their website says about it:

The University of Memphis Alumni Association is bringing Tigers Around Town to the greater Memphis community. To celebrate the University's Centennial, the Alumni Association will place life-size Tiger statues all around town, with each statue being uniquely decorated with artwork by Mid-South artists, students and alumni. The goal of Tigers Around Town is to not only recognize the Centennial of the University of Memphis, but to impressively illustrate the city's rich history and relationship with the U of M. The Tiger statues are sponsored by local fans, alumni and businesses and will be on display at their chosen locations throughout the 2012 Centennial Year!

So on Saturday, we went to the unveiling of the tigers. It was hardly advertised; John got an email about it, and I had read something in the alumni magazine, so I wasn't sure what to expect. There were actually a lot of people there. They had food, a band, and of course 100 decorated tigers.

Meyers was not really feeling it. Poor girl had a stuffy nose and watery eyes. Normally we would not have left the house, but a lot of times getting out of the house perks her up. Not today. She was pretty content to stay in her stroller.

Here are some of the tigers. They were really neat!

We had to get a picture of the tiger with Joey Dorsey's jersey on. We loved Joey when he was at Memphis!!

This one was so neat!

Here it is up close.

I finally got Meyers to get out of the stroller for a picture with a tiger.

You can tell she doesn't feel great here. She was just leaning on the tiger:(

It was really fun to go back on campus. It's been nine years since John finished undergrad and four since I finished graduate school. A lot had changed since John had been on campus, so that was neat for him to see all the new things. The campus looks great! Memphis gets such a bad rap sometimes like it's a terrible school to go to. It was good to see that it's turning into a really pretty campus that you can be proud of.

***After we left campus, we ate lunch at Five Guys. Um....I am not a huge burger fan, but it was soooooo good! You should go if you haven't!

  1. Wish it would have worked for us to go. Looked like it was really cool. Love the tiger with all the bling. I hope M gets to feeling better. :( Poor girl.
