By 2.5, Meyers had been to the ER several times for asthma. I guess Emery was feeling a little behind since she had never been because she got a trip to the ER last week.
We were over at Jamie's house for a Matilda Jane and Noonday trunk show. All the kids were playing so well together and having fun until Emery fell and busted her mouth on the knob of a dresser.
Mouths bleed. A lot. So her and I looked like we had been in a crime scene by the time I got her calmed down and the bleeding stopped. There were only a few of us left at the party and the opinion was split on whether she needed stitches. I have no experience with stitches so I wasn't sure if she needed them or not. I was worried about it healing and scarring funny if we didn't get stitches. I texted this picture to my mom and she called and said they were on the way.
We left Jamie's and met my parents at home. After some discussion, I remembered a friend from MOPS' husband is an ER doctor at our closest hospital. I texted her to see if he was working and she texted back that he was. We left immediately and went up there.
It was not crowded, but they got us back quickly. Ben (the doctor) met with us and said she did need a couple of stitches. That made me feel better that we had come because I was still unsure. He was so sweet. He's a sweet guy but his bedside manor was awesome. He made me feel a lot better explaining the process and general info about stitches and scars. He also stitched up his son's mouth (9 stitches) this summer and his wife said it looked great now.
Waiting briefly in the waiting room
She was so sweet until it was time to start. The stitching process was as terrible as to be expected with a 2 year old. It took 4 people to hold her down while he did it. It actually took 3 stitches instead of 2. It was horrible. Even when they were done, she screamed until we walked out of the hospital. We were in and out in 1.5 hours. We came home and she slept with me (after watching 2 episodes of Dora until midnight).
At home after.....
The next day....
3 days after....
5 days after....
A week after....
She's a tough cookie. She hasn't acted like it's bothered her at all. And she's still been sucking on her binky like a champ. I was wondering if the stitches might help us kick the habit. But she's pushing through:)
I'm hoping this was our first and last visit to the ER, but with this girl that has no fear, you never know.
