I was so excited about Meyers not having an accident at church! After church, I had to run to Michael's to get a few things to make her ears for her costume. It didn't take that long, but now I wish that I would have gone after we got home. We had just turned onto the street that our neighborhood is on, maybe 1.5 minutes from our driveway, and Meyers said "I need to go potty." I started speeding to our house and asked her to hold it. Well.....she couldn't and she tee teed in her carseat. Fortunately, while I was stocking up on potty supplies at One Step Ahead, I bought two of these:
It's a carseat/stroller protector. So at least her carseat wasn't soaking wet! I'll be honest. For a tiny little second, I was so disappointed that she had had an accident. And then I had to snap out of it and remember 1.) She has only been potty training for 6 days, 2.) She told me she needed to go. It's not like she just went in her seat without telling me she needed to, and 3.) We are going to have accidents while we are out. If there is not a potty close by, it's probably inevitable that it will happen especially here in the beginning. I just need to realize that this is my "new normal" for now.
I also bought this potty for the car while I was on One Step Ahead:
I bought it for situations exactly like today......when we are in the car and she needs to go. I didn't even think about pulling over because we were so close to home. So, really, that accident is kind of my fault:)
***I can't remember if I've talked about this yet, but we are not using pull-ups at all. I think she would think it's a diaper, and just go in it instead of telling me. So for NOW (I've learned to never say never. I may change my mind on this at a later date.), we are being brave and just doing the thick, cotton training pants and regular panties. So to leave the house like this is a little scary!***
Here is our little Minnie Mouse!!!
I never got a picture of Meyers's whole costume. She had pink shoes on, too! I had planned all along to make her costume and bought the McCall's pattern for it. After trying to decipher the pattern for a good, long while, I threw it in the garbage and made up my own. That McCall's pattern was sooooooo complicated! I think it's why there are generations of women that do not sew. If that is the only pattern option I had to choose from, then I would not be sewing. I was happy with the way her costume turned out. Hopefully, I'll get some better pictures of the whole thing on Halloween.
Here is Meyers and her buddy from the nursery. His sweet mama watched Meyers in the nursery this morning!
How cute are they looking at each other????

The best picture we could get with all of us. She wouldn't look at the camera:) She was a little overwhelmed with everything there and was really quiet just taking it all in. I think we took this picture right before we spent about 20 minutes in the restroom. Again....I had to remind myself that this is my new normal (for now at least) and that we were taking our 2.5 year old that has been potty training for only 6 days to an event without restrooms easily accessible. I was thinking she probably needed to go. So we sat in the restroom until she did. At least we didn't have any accidents!!!
She was so tired! She never had a nap, so we decided to leave. Again, we got kind of brave and thought "why don't we grab a quick dinner?" So we went to McAlisters. I kept asking Meyers the whole time we were there if she needed to go potty. She kept telling me no. I should have just taken her. See....I'm learning here, too:) When we got up to leave, she had totally tee teed in booster seat. At this point, I was totally frustrated!!!! I asked her probably 15 times, and she said no. I had to take some deep breaths and calm down. I took her to the restroom because once we made this discovery, she was then telling me she needed to go potty (after the fact!). We went to the restroom where she did not potty (obviously because she had just soaked herself), and I took off her pants and put clean panties on. I am hoping she learned a lesson about how gross it feels to sit in your tee tee. And I certainly learned a lesson about not listening to her when she says "no" when I ask her if she needs to potty.
Since getting out of the house for the first time in a week today, I'm realizing that Meyers and I need to get out of the house (on short trips to places where I can easily locate the restrooms) the next few weeks and figure out how this whole potty training thing is going to work for us outside of the confines of our house where potties that are easily accessible.
I'm still so proud of her. She is doing so well. I'm just reminded that this is not an easy or fast process:)
I know I'm not in the middle of the frustrating moments but I'm still impressed with meyers's progress. And her Minnie mouse costume is so adorable!
ReplyDeleteShe is doing so good! But potty training is so frustrating, especially for the parents! You're right, it's just learning a new normal and that's not always easy to do. Also, Cash and Meyers do look so cute together:)
