I was so excited to do an advent calendar this year. Meyers hasn't totally gotten into it, but that's okay, because I wanted to start the tradition. One thing that I did not really think about was how it would keep me/us on track with doing Christmas activities. This time of year is so busy; it's easy to have all these plans and those plans get sidetracked in the busyness. The advent calendar has made sure that we did some kind of Christmas activity each day. It took me a little bit to come up with age-appropriate activities for a 2.5 year old. Some of our days were really simple, and some involved bigger things. I filled the little cups with a piece of paper telling us what to do each day. I also put m and m's in there to make it a little more exciting for Meyers! Her favorite part has been to carry the little strip of paper around!
I wasn't sure how I wanted to document this here. I knew there would be lots of pictures, so I'm breaking it into part 1 and part 2, so here is what we've been the last two weeks with our calendar. There are a bunch of pictures, so I'm keeping the words minimal:)
MAKE A CHRISTMAS CRAFT:
GOING TO SEE ZOO LIGHTS:
WRITE A LETTER TO SANTA:
**Didn't get an actual picture of the writing, just a video. But I did take this picture right before we started:)
long letter!
MAKE A CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT:
Who knew foam crafts were so great?? Not me! They are not messy and Meyers loves to peel the foam stickers off!
GO SEE A CHRISTMAS PARADE:
GO SEE SANTA:
This was after she calmed down and knew that Santa was far away.
Some of the other things we have been doing this month that didn't get documented are:
- learning a new Christmas song
- reading a Christmas book
- seeing Starry Nights
- coloring pages about Jesus's birth
- going to see a live nativity
- coloring something Christmas"y" for someone special
- take canned goods to the Food Bank

I love your advent activities. Elizabeth loves foam crafts too. We did them at our Advent Festival. And I love the lack of mess!
