Wheel Day

Meyers had Wheel Day at school today, which means they got to bring anything with wheels to school and ride on them in the parking lot. She has had a bike that was a hand me down from a friend, but has never really shown much interest in it. Since she had a bike, we've never bought her a tricycle. That sounds crazy to say, but I just didn't think she would care for it. I started freaking out yesterday afternoon because she can't really ride her bike very well since she doesn't really care about it. I kind of had a meltdown and felt like a terrible parent because I haven't taught my child this "major" skill of bike riding.

So what did I do? Went to Target and bought a tricycle and made John put it together ASAP and teach her how to ride it before dinner time. The lesson didn't go super great. I was worried about her not being able to participate until I talked to her teacher and another friend last night. They both reassured me that bike riding is not a major skill and that there would be all kinds of things there including big wheels. After hearing big wheels, I thought " why haven't we bought her a big wheels yet, either?" Ughhhh - I was feeling like a loser mom at that point.

Anyway - Wheel Day was a success. While Meyers still needs to work on steering, she pedaled her little booty off. And most importantly, she had a ton of fun doing it. And I learned that there are some kids her age that are riding bikes with no training wheels and some like her that are just as happy on a big wheel or trike:)

This little wild woman had fun, too:)

And had her own "wheel day" when we got home:)

Sweet girl fell asleep on the way to pick Meyers up from school. This never happens!!
