The Story of a Playhouse

We have been talking about getting Meyers a Little Tykes playhouse for a while now. The previous owners left one in our backyard, but it had seen much better days. The plan was to get a new one and put it in the backyard. John had torn down this fenced off part of the yard (that the previous owners used for a dog pen) to put it back there.

I thought he was just tearing it down because we didn't need it.....which is fine because we don't. He didn't know that there is no way that I want my 2 year old playing in the very back of the yard, by the fence, right by the woods, which I'm convinced is full of snakes!!!

So we kind of put the playhouse thing out of our minds until recently. A nurse at one of John's offices has tripletts that are too old for their playhouse, so she asked him if we wanted to buy it. I'm not sure why it never occurred to me to put a playhouse in our basically empty playroom. Part of it is probably because I envision a playroom looking like a playroom/media room combination like something out of Pottery Barn. But let's get real, we haven't even finished decorating our downstairs the way we want it, my dream playroom is very last on the list. So we decided to put it in the playroom, which makes total sense. It's a million degrees outside. Between that and the winter, the times she could use it outside are way limited. And one day, when she is older, we will have my dream playroom/media room:)

We got the playhouse this weekend. It's Barbie, by the way. Meyers has no clue about Barbies, but I'm sure she will think that's neat in a couple of years. We put it together after she went to bed Saturday night. We were so giddy like it was Christmas Eve or something. On Sunday morning, she walked into the playroom to play at her desk (that is what she wants to do first thing in the morning these days), and she saw her playhouse. She was so excited. She really loves the doorbell and being able to go in and close the door. She tells us "bye" when she closes the door. The three adirondack chairs are from this family, too. Meyers made herself at home and sat in them while we were picking up the playhouse. The sweet kids told their mom that they wanted to give Meyers the chairs. How cute is that? It's not often that people give us random kid stuff (we don't have a toy fairy like some people I know), so I was like, "um, yes, please". She loves sitting in the chairs. They are the perfect size for her.

So.....that is the story of a playhouse and how it came to live in our playroom. All of this has totally motivated me to get the playroom neat, organized, and completely child-proof. And Meyers has a playroom that is super fun to play in now. It's a win-win!!

  2. What a sweet playhouse! We want to get E one. I don't think the baby fairy will be dropping one by. I think the age gap between E and her son is closing in but we were so blessed for everything she passed on to us!
I think Meyers's playroom is turning into a dream playroom for a a two year old. I know E will love it when we come visit!
