An Old Frame and Some Chicken Wire

When we moved into our first house 8 years ago, we kind of went a little crazy at a local frame store's sale. We had nothing to put on the walls, so we bought a ton of pictures for a really great price. At the time, we were so excited about our "art". It didn't take long to realize that a lot of the pictures weren't really our style. We hadn't really figured out our style at that point.

Anyway, as we would take pictures down, I had John put them in the garage for repurposing. He didn't understand why we needed to keep all of these pictures we didn't like anymore. They even got moved to the garage at this house. He kept trying to throw them out with the garbage.

Well, I finally repurposed one of them. I think I have about 4 0r 5 to go! I knew I wanted to put something in the kitchen where we could put pictures, but not just a wall of frames. I want a gallery wall in my house somewhere, but that is way down on the list. My friend, Tasha, has a frame in her kitchen with wire going across it horizontally, and that is what I thought I was going to do until she showed me something on Pinterest. I am the last person in the world not on Pinterest. I think it's amazing, but I know that I would spend a ridiculous amount of time on there, and I don't have a ridiculous amount of time right now, so I just haven't gotten on there yet. But I'm so glad she showed me this frame with chicken wire in it. Here is what mine turned out like.......

And because I love a before and after, here is what it looked like in it's former life.......

Pretty ugly, right? Don't judge me because this hung in our guest bedroom for a few years.

I am so excited with the way this turned out, AND that is was super cheap. I did have to pay $12 for the chicken wire, but I only used a few feet of it, so if you break that down, it's pretty inexpensive. Apparently they don't just have small rolls of that, but if you know someone with chicken wire, this would be practically free!

I don't "do" tutorials, but this is pretty self-explanatory. The one tip I have is chicken wire only comes in a typical silver, metal color, at least all that I could find. The frame I saw on Pinterest's chicken wire looked like it was a brown/bronzey color, so I (John actually since my pregnant self didn't want to inhale the fumes) spraypainted it a bronzey color. It goes better with our kitchen that way.

Now I just need to print more pictures to put in there. I'm so bad about taking a zillion pictures and letting them sit on our computer:)

  1. I do love some Pinterest. It's great when you're planning something. I'm using it for Mel's shower right now. You should definitely get on there.
